How To Quickly Trash Email on the iPhone
I get tons of email every day, and tapping on each one in order to delete them on my iPhone takes forever. Is there a better way to quickly delete messages?
You’re not alone. It seems like everyone is drowning in email these days. Tapping Edit in the upper-right corner of iOS Mail lets you select a group of messages and either delete them or move them to another folder in one swoop. But you still have to tap each one to select it. It’s faster, but not by much.

Swiping and tapping is the quickest route between your Inbox and the Trash.
For quickly deleting unneeded messages, I swipe right on a message in list view, which brings up a Delete button. There’s still a lot of swiping and tapping, but you don’t have to open a message first. To make it easier to tell which messages you can quickly delete, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and set the preview to two or more lines so that you’ll see a little bit of each message’s content without having to actually open it.

One thing which I think is a glaring omission when reading mail on an iPhone is the ability to filter unread emails - or am I missing something.
It's quite annoying - and time consuming - to have to scroll through a long list of emails to find the one unread one.
