Old iPads in good condition fetch handsome prices on the internet
Your beloved iPad may have been superceded, but it’s still a worthy gadget that people will be happy to get their hands on. So why not cash in, by selling it?
Once you’re sure your apps, files and music have been transferred to your new iPad, it’s time to wipe everything off your old iPad. Tap Settings > General > Reset. Near the top is a button marked Erase All Content and Settings. Tap this, read the warnings, take a deep breath, and give it the go-ahead. If it’s a 3G iPad, remove the SIM card and keep it.

Now, wipe all those fingerprints off the screen and back, using a clean, lint-free computer-cleaning cloth. Gather all the cords and things that came with the iPad -- such as the charger, USB lead, manual and box. The more of this you have and the better condition it’s in, the more money you’ll be able to ask.
With everything in one place, your next job is to take some photos. Don’t rush these -- make sure the background’s clean and clutter-free and the lighting’s even. Lay everything out and take shots of all the accessories, as well. Photograph any scratches or cosmetic imperfections on your iPad, too, so that anyone buying knows what they’re getting.
With the shots taken, write a concise and accurate description to go on your advertisement -- again, be honest: don’t say it’s in mint condition if it’s not. If you’re listing on eBay, see our tips opposite. While eBay will probably showcase your iPad to the biggest number of potential buyers, there are (modest) fees involved with selling on the site.
If you find a buyer, it’s up to you to arrange to meet them, and exchange payment. Finally, a lot of companies have internal noticeboards or an intranet, where you can list things for sale. This may well be the easiest option.
Five Ways to Get the Best Deal on eBay
1. Choose Your Words
Think about what someone buying an old iPad is going to search for. Include the iPad model, its storage capacity, condition, and whether it’s boxed, in your advert’s title. If you’re including accessories here, point this out, if you have space.
2. Be Descriptive
Use the item description to sell your iPad to the viewer. Describe any imperfections clearly, so people know what they’re buying. Mention it has the latest version of iOS, and list some of its key features, such as AirPrint, and AirPlay.
3. Pick the Right Price
To help set your starting price, do an Advanced Search for completed auctions of similar spec iPads, and see what they’ve sold for. Your starting price may be what it ends up selling for, so don’t start off too low.
4. Time it Right
Most bids come in the final two hours of auctions -- make sure it finishes at peak times such as weekday evenings, or weekends. If necessary, you could pay extra for the Schedule option to do this.
5. Check Postage Costs
Check postage costs for your iPad at usps.com. We strongly suggest that you purchase insurance when you send your iPad, which will pay compensation if your packet goes missing.
