Hot on the heels of the suggestions we pitched to Apple for how they could make MobileMe awesome, the folks from Cupertino sent out word to users of the subscription-based cloud service that they've updated their calendar application. Not only has Apple provided the online version of their popular iCal application with a fresh face that closely mimics that seen in the iPad iteration of the software, they've also baked in the ability for the application's users to share their calendars with others and send out event invitations with one-click RSVPs. Sound good? If your a current MobileMe subscriber and want to start using these great new features, let Mac|Life show you the way.
Step One: Log into the MobileMe Website

Yes, we know that most of you use MobileMe to sync their contacts, calendars and mail on the go to and from your iOS devices, but let's just pretend your sexy iPhone, iPad and iPod touch don't exist just now. Plunk yourself down in front of your laptop or desktop and, using the browser of your choice, navigate here. You'll be greeted by a slash screen touting the new features that this Calendar update affords.
If you're not keen on any of Calendar updates or prefer that the web application's interface continued to kick it old-school, you can choose to skip the upgrade by clicking Remind Me later. If on the other hand, you love what Apple's done to the place, click the Get Started button.
Step Two: Update

Once you've clicked the clicking the Get Started button, MobileMe will ask you if the hardware you're rocking meets the minimum requirements necessary for Calendar's new features to operate. If your devices pass muster, click the Upgrade now button. If not, you'll want to upgrade your computer and iOS device software before proceeding.
Step Three: Reticulating Splines

If your computer and iOS devices are all up to date and you've opted to proceed, Mobile Me will reward you with progress bar that assures you that your Calendar is indeed being upgraded. In a few moments, this uninspiring gray screen will give way to your newly updated Calendar!
Step Four: Check it Out

Yep, that's a calendar all right! However, this one can be turned up to eleven. You'll note that as before, all of your calendars are listed on the left hand side of the page. However, thanks to Calendar's upgrade, there are a few important additions. Let's take a closer look.
Step Five: Sharing is Caring

Next to each of your personal calendars, you'll note that a sharing icon, exactly like the one we've already become accustomed to when sharing files via iDisk, is now present. By clicking on the sharing icon, you'll be given the option to either share that specific calendar with specific individuals who can both read and edit the calendar, or publish the calendar for all to look at, but not touch. Just select which option works best for you, and click the share button.

As you can see, the details of your freshly shared calendar will be made available to you. Just enter the link into a web browser, and you'll be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Step Six: Take it All Back

If you change your mind about sharing any of your calendars, MobileMe makes it easy to do so. Look at the list of calendars on the left hand side of your screen once again. You'll note that the icons next to any of the calenders you've opted to share have turned green. Click the icon. To immediately go back to keeping your plans to yourself, click the Stop Sharing button. Presto--your schedule will be a mystery wrapped up in an enigma once again.
Easy like pancakes--a meal which you can now post to your calendar and share with anyone that you care to invite.
