Can you advise the steps that I should take in order to transfer my contacts from Outlook on Windows so that I can easily import them to my Mac? I will be retiring from my employer and turning in my PC, and my new MacBook Pro hasn’t arrived yet.
From within Outlook 2010 (the newest version of Outlook on the PC), you can export your contacts to a CSV (comma-separated value) file. First select File > Options > Advanced. Under Export, click Export. In the Import and Export Wizard, click “Export to a file,” and then click Next. The next screen asks you to choose a file type; select CSV and click Next. Under “Select a folder to export from,” select the contact folder you want to export, and click Next. In the “Save exported file as” dialog, click Browse to select a destination folder, and in the File Name box, pick a name for the file. Click OK, and then in the Export to File dialog, click Next and then Finish. Quite a process.

The import process to Contacts in OS X is simple compared to the arduous Outlook export process.
Luckily, importing the CSV to the Contacts app in Mountain Lion is a snap--open the Contacts application and select File > Import, or press Command-O. Find the CSV file you transferred to your Mac, and click Open to begin the import process.
