If you own an iPhone and have been yearning to use it to tether your Wi-Fi enabled devices to the internet (especially your iPad), all you need is a jailbroken iPhone and an ingenious iOS application to set up a Wi-Fi hotspot anywhere you go.
Interested? Of course you are! Let's get started!
Step 1: Jailbreak Your iPhone
Once your iPhone's been jailbroken, you'll need make a visit to the Cydia App Store. With the majority of jailbreaking methods, including the two we've suggested, you'll have the the option of installing it to your handset from the get go. Once installed, the icon looks something like this:

If this is your first time visiting the store, you'll be asked whether you're a User, Hacker or a Developer. For most of you, choosing User is the way to go. Once you've answered the question, you will have access to the store.
Step 2: Seek It Out
Click on the Search icon in the botton right-hand corner of the Cydia Apps Store's interface, and type in the word "MyWi".

Tap on the application's entry to get started.
Step 3: Meet MyWi

MyWi is an iOS application that allows you to share your iPhone's 3G connectivity with other devices, such as your Mac, an iPad--even your Apple TV. The application is available exclusively through the Cydia App store for $19.99. To purchase MyWi, you'll need either an Amazon or PayPal account. Once you've secured your copy of the application and installed it on your iPhone, your handset will reboot. Don't Panic! Everything is going according to plan.
Step 4: Setting Up a Hot Spot
Once your iPhone has started back up, click on the MyWi icon. The application will open, and reveal a number of settings, the most important of which--Wi-Fi Tethering--can be found at the top of the app's user interface. To set up a Wi-Fi hotspot using your iPhone's 3G data connection, simply slide the Wi-Fi Tethering toggle to "On".

You'll note that your Wi-Fi Name will be the same one that shows up when you connect your iPhone to iTunes. This comes in handy when you're looking to connect a device to your iPhone's MyWi-enabled hotspot for the first time.
Step 5: Surfing the Internet

With things sorted out on your iPhone, it's time to fire up a wireless device and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Open up your device's wireless management interface, and select the name of the iOS device that you've installed MyWi on.
Congratulations! You're now online and ready to surf, chat, play and download to your heart's content!
You may want to consider digging a little deeper into MyWi to see what else the application offers. With very little tinkering, you can set up password protection for your hotspot to keep sneaky coffeehouse hipsters from snagging your signal, meddle with the application's transmission power settings and even change Wi-Fi channels.
Happy surfing!
Note: Jailbreaking your iPhone could void your warranty, and creating a Wi-Fi hotspot with your iPhone could violate your agreement with your wireless service provider. Use common sense.
