The latest update to iTunes is such a drastic change that many users are scratching their heads trying to figure out where everything is and how to work it.

Sure, if you just want to hit Play, you're good to go, but if you're looking for the alleged ringtones Steve was talking about, or how to share your music via Twitter and Facebook, it's not that cut and dry.

We jumped right into iTunes and hopefully, this list of tips will help you get back to enjoying your music while basking comfortably in the new features of iTunes 9.

Arrange Your iPhone Apps

You can now arrange your iPhone apps from within iTunes. Woo-hoo! Not so fast there, buddy, It's still a bit of a pain. You can't drag apps from, lets say, Screen 2 to Screen 10. The navigation doesn't scroll automatically as you attempt to drag and drop. The best method to move items from Screen 2 to Screen 10 is to click on Screen 2. Then scroll to Screen 10. Drag and drop your app from Screen 2 to Screen 10. You'll have to navigate back to Screen 2 in order to grab other apps, unless you Command-click to select more than one in the first place.

UPDATE: Move more than one app at a time. Command-Click on a second, or third, app and you can move them all at once to a new screen.

UPDATE: Commenter woolyninja points out that you can indeed drag apps to screens and have the screen list scroll as your drag. My two test machines with iTunes 9 wouldn't allow this, no matter how hard I tried. I just tried it on a third machine and it works like a charm. Thanks catching this Mr. woolyninja, may all your throwing stars hit their mark.

Navigate the iTunes Store

All categories now have a menubar item at the top of the store window, and those menubar items have contextual menus. To move forward and back, you use the arrows in the upper-left corner. This may seem like "duh!" but a few folks have missed the drop-down menus entirely while navigating the new store layout.

Hold Me Closer, Tiny Player

Clicking the green radio button no longer shrinks your iTunes window to the Mini Player we've come to know and love. To do that, press Command-Shift-M, or choose View > Show Mini Player. Once the Mini Player is on your screen, you can click its green radio button to go back to a regular-sized window.

UPDATE: Option-Clicking on the green button will minimize the iTunes window to the Mini Player. Thanks Ryan Schaaf via Twitter!

Where are Genius Mixes?

To get the Genius Mixes feature to appear, you have to update Genius.

Navigate to Store > Update Genius. Genius Mixes will appear under the regular Genius playlist option.

On the iPhone and iPod touch, you need to have Genius Mixes turned on within iTunes. Plug your iPhone or iPod touch into your computer. Select your iPhone in the left panel and then navigate to the Music tab. There you can check the Genius Mixes under playlists. Those mixes will be synced to your iPhone. Careful, since you can't tell how many songs are in the Genius Mixes, the mix could be more than your device can handle if you have a large music library.

Once you've found the Genius Mixes, it can be a let-down. Genius Mixes doesn't allow you to see what songs are in the mix. You just have to trust it.

I updated genius, and the genius mixes option still won't show up. Yes i am sure that i am using iTunes 9. The option won't show up on my iPod touch either. This is really bugging me, as it looks so easy for other people. I don't know what i'm doing wrong.

I'm using iTunes 9. I'm sure of it. I just can't get genius mixes to work at all. No way no how. I update genius, but the genius mixes absolutely do not show up. Nowhere do i find genius mixes. Nowhere at all. What am i doing wrong?

I didn't understand it at first, either, until I figured out the aforementioned tip about updating Genius. Worked on both of the Macs at my house. This may be nothing, but try turning Genius off and then back on. If that doesn't do it, then maybe something just went wrong with the installation and you should remove iTunes and then download it again from Apple's website. If it still doesn't work, then consult Apple's forums.

You're right that the Browser (ie, Genre, Artist & Album at the top) isn't new, but the new Column Browser gives you options for positioning, and lets you pick and choose which columns you'd like to show. Awesome for those of us that hate iTunes' stupid genre designations.

Genius apps

If you want to know how to get Genius apps, follow this how to:

1. launch the app store on your iPhone or iPod touch (Must have 3.1.1 software update) and go to the "Featured" tab

2. Touch "Genius" at the top

3. Touch "Turn on Genius" and enter your Account password.

4. Click "Accept" on the "Terms and Conditions" page and there you go!!!

I didn't have any issues? I took an app and dragged it to the bottom of the scrollable area and it auto scrolled to panels further down the list.

So far my experience has been very good with iTunes 9. Particularly loving the ability to arrange my iPhone apps. Finally! I've waited sooooooo long to have some decent app management.

The new Itunes deleted several old-time radio stations. I'm telling my wife not to load Itunes 9, because we like to listen to ACB and Crimetime and i cannot find them anywhere on the radio tabs. What a crock.

Very nice tips and tricks , The best method to move items from Screen 2 to Screen 10 is to click on Screen 2. Then scroll to Screen 10. This really worked pretty good.

Does anyone know why they removed the shortcut to the equalizer in the windows version? They did this in like Itunes 6.0 or 7.0.

It used to be ctrl+e, but they just removed it. You can now only reach it trough the menu view...? Really annoying!

Mac's still have the shortcut. (shift+applekey+e or something like that)

Missing Features and Possible Tweaks?!?

Okay I seriously miss my ability to put things in a shopping cart and purchase them later, when I have the money to do so, I don't care much for how this has changed, I'd like to know if there is a tweak somewhere to get this back or not, I hate the 1-click crap they have insisted everyone now use, I never used it before and seriously do not want to be forced to use it now. I am seriously thinking on going back to iTunes 8 till this is fixed.

I don't like that I can no longer find a list of production companies to search by either, the only one I see listed anywhere now is Disney, where'd they go? Can we get that back somehow?

I still don't like how they have the HDMovies section done, and it's even worse with the "new" "Extras" section as well, when are they going to fix that too, how on earth are you supposed to find anything in those sections?

Gone back to iTunes 8 till this is fixed...

By this Custom Research Paper I can see why losing that would be irritating if you used the miniplayer, but this was a huge UI inconsistency. The proper behavior of the green button is related to window size, not changing display modes. I always found this inconsistency incredibly irritating, and I'm actually rather excited that they fixed it. Essay Format
