Sink the Auto-Sync
I have an iPhone, and I sync it to my Mac at home. If I plug it into my Mac at work, will it try to sync to that Mac? I don’t keep much on that machine, just work stuff, and I don’t want all my personal contacts, mail, calendars, and music on my iPhone replaced with data from my work computer.

If the Automatically Sync box is unchecked, you have to click the Sync button to sync.
You’ve got a couple of options. The first is to connect your iPhone to your home Mac, select it in the iTunes sidebar, and uncheck the box for Automatically Sync When This iPhone Is Connected. That way you can connect it to your Mac at work for charging without worrying that iTunes will try to sync it. The drawback is, it won’t sync automatically on your home Mac--you’ll have to remember to click the Sync button after iTunes recognizes the phone.
The second option, which works better if you don’t plan on connecting the phone to the work Mac very often (just when it needs a charge…oh wait, that IS very often), is to open iTunes, then hold down the Command and Option keys as you connect the iPhone. This’ll prevent iTunes from trying to sync your phone automatically, even if that Automatically Sync option is checked.

Rich Cassadywww.cass69.comrich_cassady69@mac.com My biggest sync problems is everytime I sync my iphone to my Mac it resets all of my ringtones to the default ringer. I have a ton of ringtones, one for most of my callers, so this is abig issue for me. You can avoid it by logging out of Mobile Me before you sync, but too many times I have forgot to sign out first.
