I Shall Call Him, Mini Mod
Posted 03/14/2008 at 1:06:13pm | by Roberto Baldwin

Case modder, Hideo Takano, placed his Mac mini into a custom built case that resembles the Mac Pro tower. The side of the case even opens to reveal the enclosed hard drive. Takano also added a USB port and power button to the front of his mini tower.

If you think you have the mad skills to recreate this masterpiece, Takano has posted a how-to to create your own. The original directions are in Japanese, but the power of Google Translate could get a few brave souls on their way.

Our favorite translated step: And this is part of the hole in the earth and many offer a table in the front part.

avatarthat is the single coolest

that is the single coolest thing i've seen someone do with an apple product. If apple was smart, they'd ask this guy to join the design team for a new mac mini

avatarnew Mini?

Um... next Mac Mini? I don't think there will be a next Mac Mini. If Apple TV goes the direction of DVR (which is what it should have been in the first place), Apple will certainly drop its only foray into reasonably priced computers since the failed cube. They won't want the competition of the Mini/EyeTV combination to decrease sales of the Apple TV-DVR.

On the Apple DVR- too bad the name "iRecord" is already taken. iJukebox sounds ugly, and iStream just sounds vulgar. :)

avatari meant if they decide to

i meant if they decide to make a new one, not that theyre going to. but it would be awesome if apple did and it looked like a mini-mac pro.

avatarHello. Is there a campaign

Hello.

Is there a campaign like "Green My Apple" (or the campaigns by PACs to draft a VIP to run as an election candidate), which wants to get Apple Inc. to build a specific Mac Computer a lot of people dream of?

Like a Desktop Mac without a TFT screen, which is technicl between Mac Mini and Mac Pro???

I would love to see a Desktop Mac with user upgradable graphics card, second hard disk drive possibility, RAM upgrades, etc.

Thanks for answering my question :)

avatarGood idea...

I was thinking that the iMac could use the "Pro" treatment so that people to add more onto the iMac without upgrading to the uber-expensive Mac Pro. I would also like to see a way to customize the outer chasis, too. I'm sick and tired of the uniform look to their current products. Speaking of graphics cards, why do they have to narrow it down to specific ones rather than accepting any NVIDIA or ATI graphics card?

avatarMaybe?

Maybe because they dont work for Mac computers? or maybe the companies wont sell to make? I dont know, just suggestions...

avatardoes anyone have an opinion

does anyone have an opinion as to the future of apple, considering the health of Jobs? Is there a predecesor lined up?

avatarPredecessor? You mean

Predecessor? You mean replacement or some such, predecessor means 'before' not 'after'.

I think the mod is cool, but not as cool as the Steampunk Mac mini. Ooh...granite, brass and leather. Mmmm

avatarWho will or won't replace Jobs

We did a funny little story about that.

Check it out.
