After months of speculation, wild predictions and unicorn tears, the iPad 2 was finally revealed today. Of all the predictions surrounding Apple's latest creation, what did the internet get right? What did they get wrong? Here's our rundown of what came true with iPad 2 at today's Apple Event and what failed to materialize.
Steve Jobs!

Not many people expected to see this one coming. Given that he'd recently taken a step back from his duties at Apple, it was a great surprise to see Steve Jobs take to the stage to talk us through the iPad 2. While the tablet's specs would have been just as impressive without his presence, there's no denying that having Steve on hand to deliver the goods just feels right.
It's Called iPad 2

Seriously, we've been taking the name for granted. Up until today, no one at Apple had spoken of the tablet by name. iPad 2 was a name that the media gave to Apple's latest product update.
The Full Monty

It was dallied about by many internet pundits that today's the iPad 2 revealed today would feel more like a lackluster iPad 1.5, as Apple might be planning on unleashing two updates to their tablet fleet in a single year. However, with its host of significant tech upgrades, a thoughtful physical redesign and an armada of improvements to the iPad's iOS operating system, we feel that the only way they could currently improve upon the device is with the announcement that their new HDMI out peripheral also offers shiatsu massages and can poach a perfect egg.
White, Black, GSM & CDMA

Those wondering about whether that white iPad bezel that appeared a few days back was legit, now have their answer. iPad 2 will be available in Black or White. Additionally, you'll be able to accessories those tones with a sweet-looking, folding magnetic cases in a variety of colors.
Best of all, we'll be able to rock out with a 3G iPad 2 on Verizon or AT&T right from the get-go. Now that's what we call an upgrade!
No New Ports

No SD slot. No Thunderbolt. No USB connectivity. Today's Apple Event finally put the rumors of new ports being baked into iPad 2 to rest. Yes, this means we'll still have to tote around a camera connection kit and a dock connector to transfer files from our tablets to a computer or camera, but it also means that the iPad 2's battery life won't take a hit from having to power additional hardware. Speaking of additional hardware...
Say Cheese!

Front and rear facing cameras? Check. This was on everyone's wish list from the moment the first iPad keynote ended. As just about everyone in the biosphere predicted, iPad 2 owners will have the option to FaceTime with their iPhone 4, Mac and iPod touch rocking contemporaries. And as we said we said earlier, Photo Booth's a go as well.
Not a Penny More

Despite all of the improvements that Apple has introduced with their second iteration of the iPad 2, the price of the device will remain the same right across the board. That means that the price that you paid for last year's model will net you this year's new sexy. Given the impressive spec bump that the iPad received this time around, we have a feeling that Motorola's going to have a very difficult time making a dent in Apple's tablet sales with their Android-based Xoom tablet. With Apple and Motorola's base-model tablets priced at $499 and $799 respectively, which one do you see the majority of consumers jumping on?
Orientation Lock Switch!

We complained at the loss of the iPad's orientation lock switch, and by gum Apple listened! While we knew that it was in betas of iOS 4.3, we're happy to see it hitting the gold master of the iOS update when it hits the streets on March 11. Now we'll be able to choose whether the toggle on the side of our tablets acts as a mute button or makes the iPad's screen behave itself. Democracy FTW!
The Future is Now

It was rumored that iPad 2 might be available to consumers by the time that today's Keynote ended. While the tablet's availability isn't instant, its pretty close. Apple's tells us that iPad 2 will be available on March 11 both online and at Apple retail stores in the United States, with the rest of the world following suit not long after.
Screen Ratio: Same As It Ever Was

There was some speculation as to whether or not the iPad's screen was due for an overhaul. Many thought that iPad 2 might have a larger, higher resolution display. Sorry folks, but no dice... at least not for this version of the iPad. With iPad 2, you'll be able to enjoy creating and consuming on the same screen that's help to make it the number one tablet computing device in the world. There's little doubt in our minds that the rumor mills are hard at work grinding out the details of what iPad 3 will have in store!
No Updates to MobileMe

Well this is a downer. We can all agree that the iPad 2 was Apple making a great product even better. We can't say the same thing about MobileMe, Apple's antiquated cloud service is in dire need of an overhaul. Many of us (this writer included), were hoping that today might have marked a new era for Apple's subscription based online dinosaur, but no dice. That means, no streaming music, no new social media features and no fresh-faced uses for that new data center in North Carolina. Phooey.
