A lot of scuttlebutt has been spread across the interwebz this past month concerning The Daily--an iPad-only daily news application from Rupert Murdoch's News Corp that print journalism types everywhere are hoping will breathe fresh life into their dying industry. For a long time now, rumor has had it that The Daily would launch on January 17th. Forbes magazine has been good enough to update that rumor, bumping The Daily's release date back to January 19th.
According to Forbes, the application will allow for in-app purchases of daily content updates, making it, provided the content is up to snuff, a worthy contender to paper and ink daily news publications. it's also possible, as Mac Rumors points out, that News Corp may also implement subscription billing for the application, should the option become available with a future iOS update.
So what do you think readers? Will The Daily be the savioir of the print industry that pundits have been foreseeing since the debut of the iPad, or is it just another reading content app that will see some brief popularity before fizzling out?
