2010 has been a great year for iOS apps and the devices that use them. With the introduction of the Retina Display on the iPhone 4 and the generous amount of screen real estate offered by the iPad, Apple mobile product users have become accustomed to beautiful user interfaces that not only look good, but provide them, in most cases, with immediate application gratification. As the year comes to a close, however, one developer has seen fit to bend those gorgeous screens to his will, providing us with an application that doesn't offer instant satisfaction. Instead, Strange Rain--really more a work of art than a game--rewards long-term use while looking good doing it.
Strange Rain is an interactive story telling app that responds to how long you use it. The more you interact with the application, the more of the application's story will unfold. In addition to the story, Strange Rain users will also be rewarded with a deeper, OK let's just say it--stranger--graphical experience as they use the application over time.
With so many apps currently available for iOS devices that serve a specific productive purpose or are there for flat out fun, it's refreshing to find that a developer has taken the time to deliver something utterly unique.
