Why Is There No Microsoft Office Suite For the iPad?

Microsoft Office makes money. So, with that being the case, why won't Microsoft make a version of Office for the iPad so that we can give them more money to love?
It seems like a pretty straight forward gambit: With Apple having shipped over five million iPads, many of which are no doubt totting copies of iWork, you'd think that the greenback-loving boys from Redmond would have wanted to get a piece of the pie. It's not like they haven't had time to get their ducks in a row. Even poor, brow-beaten Blackberry, are preparing to enter the tablet world with an entry of their own recently acquired DataViz, a company that was producing office applications for handheld devices long before the iPad was a glint in Steve Jobs' eye.
C'mon Microsoft! We can even log into Google Docs on the fly these days! How can you look the public in the eye and tell us that Office for our iPads, iPhones and iPods is a no go?
Oh? You've got nothing to say for yourself, hmm?
Well Microsoft, I guess that Business Insider's just gonna have to speculate about what the heck's going on in that head of yours. They've put together an interesting piece on the importance of your taking the time to get some traction in the rapidly growing tablet market.
Go ahead and read it--we'll wait. But when you're done, you've got some explaining to do.

Microsoft is holding off until they release their own tablet. They want to be the first choice among PC users before offering up the goods to Mac users -- their competition. Balmer (is that his name?) has already commented that Apple have sold more iPads that he would "like" for them to. It makes sense that he wouldn't want to give them a further push in that direction. (My two cents.)
