One fine day in New York City,
Gizmodo reader Mr. Manoj wanted to make a nice normal call, so he pulled out his iPhone, and started calling. He got connected and started talking. Then all of a sudden, BAM. Dropped call. Maroj, being naturally annoyed,
decided to call AT&T to see what happened and why this tends to happen to
him all the time. AT&T said that it was his phone’s problem, because they
were doing nothing wrong. Manoj then went to the Apple store to get the
Geniuses to fix it, but oh nay nay. It turns out, that 22% of all of Manoj’s
calls were dropped, and considering the average rate of dropped calls in New York by iPhones is 30%, that number is pretty good.
Research shows that an average of 30% of iPhone calls are
dropped in NYC, and that’s supposedly an acceptable number, according to Apple. It’s
mostly AT&T’s problem. The phones themselves work fine, but the network
just can’t handle the load. Because of this, people can’t really “fix” the problem, they
just have to wait until AT&T fixes the service in
large cities like New York.
