If you prefer to take your daily dose of out-and-about with a hearty helping of headphone-funneled music, you'll know that from time to time, some of the finer points of the great outdoors, such as blaring truck horns warning you of the possible end of your life, might escape your attention. As tired a phrase as it is, we have to say, there's an App for that.
Awareness! The Headphone App is designed to let as little or as much of the outside world past your cans as you fancy. The application, designed to work with the built in microphones in an iPhone or iPod touch, allows the user to set an audio level that when encounter, will turn off the device's music feed, replacing with ambient noise that could be of importance to the user. You know, things like an air raid siren, that all-important truck horn or someone calling you to dinner. While the application isn't able to discriminate between what noises might be important to you and those you'd rather ignore, the App is a nifty alternative to being forced to keep your tunes down to a miserably low level in order to hear what's going on around you.
