Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior HD

You don't want to be the one looking up a that insane fury.
Bruce Lee balanced camp and marial arts like no other movie star, and Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior HD for iPad follows in those fleet footsteps. The fun fighting game has enough combinations and special moves to stand out, but layers of showmanship and humor propel the game to greatness; you get everything from Bruce Lee's iconic chicken squak, to villains that could have been plucked from James Bond movies or the original Batman TV show.
Dragon Warrior HD holds its own as a single-player fighting game even on a device without buttons. In frenzied moments, our thumbs sometimes drifted away from their targets, but we usually hit the directional pad and two buttons. Single taps initiate basic attacks and blocks, while many combinations--such as down, right, punch--activate special moves. Many of those moments seem lifted from Bruce Lee movies for the best, such as when the camera kicks into slow motion; the extra time reveals Bruce Lee's wry, cocky face as much as his elaborate throws, kicks, and punches.

There's a dress code here, buddy.
Several game modes let you play in a variety of ways. The story progresses in between fights, with illustrated scenes and stupidly simple text. ("So, you are a burning tiger?" "Yes. I will make you burn!") Other modes let you fight as the various enemies in one-on-one battles. Survival matches restore only a little bit of your health before facing a fresh challenger. Even after we mastered the basics, these alternatives kept us playing.
The game includes several glitches and bugs, however. Music and story text occasionally vanished. We overlooked those problems, but more troubling, a repeating crash blocked our progress late in the story mode.
Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior HD combines goofy enemies and fun fighting just like his movies. Aside from some bugs, it's a knockout.
