De Blob

This is your brain on De Blob.
He’s a lone hero on a mission to rescue his city from the forces of darkness. No, not Batman - we’re talking about De Blob for your iPhone or iPod touch. The I.N.K.T. Corporation has drained all the color from Chroma City, and it’s up to you to undo their monochromatic mischief.
Roll De Blob over paint balls scattered around town, and you’ll change color and paint every building you bump into. Colors mix as you acquire them, so you might pick up yellow and blue to turn green... until you roll through red. Beware the agents of I.N.K.T. - if they touch you, you’ll lose your hue and drain color from buildings you touch. De Blob is broken up into levels, and each requires you to reach a particular score under a time limit. As you play, you'll collect hidden coins, rescue citizens, squash enemies with a double-tap, and receive missions: paint so many buildings in a certain time, race to another part of town, etc. De Blob is fun, and there’s always something to do, but the basic gameplay is much the same from level to level.
De Blob has great controls. You can tap your iPhone or iPod touch’s screen to move, or tilt your device and use the accelerometer to play. Here’s the best part: you can calibrate the accelerometer for your position at any point in the game. Want to play holding your device in front of you while walking? How about holding it above your head while lying on the couch? No problem, and the touch screen controls can be used at any time for extra finesse.
The graphics are nothing amazing, but they more than get the job done. De Blob has a lot of onscreen action. In fact, sometimes that action makes it difficult to spot the bad guys or the arrows that point you toward your goal. For all De Blob's action, its soundtrack is surprisingly funky and mellow. We didn't mind it one bit, but you can turn it off easily enough if it’s not your thing.
While the game feels repetitive in long stretches, de Blob is a fast-paced, cheerfully anarchic diversion with some real challenges under its cute hood.
