Really, it's that great.
What a difference a digit makes. The first EasyWriter suitably replaced the iPhone’s portrait-only email composer with its widescreen typing. And version 2.0 corrects nearly all of the original's shortcomings. While there’s still no support for text messaging (which the creators blame on Apple), EasyWriter has added two great features that habitual emailers will find indispensable.
The app has always included support for text clippings--commonly used phrases that can be selected from a list--but they're now further automated as shortcuts. Assign a few letters to trigger a string of text, and the phrase will magically appear the next time you type the shorthand.
And a bona fide spellchecker catches all those miscues that get past iPhone's predictive keyboard. Much like a word processor, EasyWriter sifts through each word and offers suggestions for unknowns; if the word's right--like "iPhone," which oddly isn't in the stock dictionary--it can either be skipped or learned for future reference.
With its new spellchecker, EasyWriter has earned a permanent place in our iPhone.
