No doubt there'll be a lot of smiles on the faces of Apple's Board of Directors today. Why so happy? Well, it seems that the Chinese Government has approved the company's iPhone 4 handset for retail to billions of Chinese citizens.
Man, if you thought it was hard finding an iPhone 4 to buy now, just wait until the handset takes off in the Asian market.
According to 9to5Mac, Apple has recieved word that they've won a Chinese Network License from the Chinese Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center. Having cleared this particularly important hurdle, Apple's Chinese cellular carrier of choice, China Unicom, will no doubt be able to begin offering the handsets to eager Chinese consumers in a matter of months. The Chinese edition of the iPhone 4 will boast all of the same features as its North American and Eurpean counterparts, with the exception of being able to display YouTube videos as, to put it bluntly, Google and China just aren't too happy with each other these days.
9to5mac is quick to point out that the number of cellphone using citizens in China is roughly equivillant to the total number of people alive in the United States and Europe combined. With a market like that for Apple to ply their wares to, we can only imagine the insane amount of cash they'll be making in the years to come.
