Three of America's most prominent publications picked apart the iPhone 3G and the verdict is unanimous, this generation's iPhone is a major improvement from last year's precursor.
Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal and Edward Baig of USA Today agreed on the iPhone's speedy load times via AT&T's 3G network, though the New York Time's David Pogue counters that the network is not readily available everywhere in the United States (it's apparently abundant in 70 other countries, according to the same NYT article). The AT&T network seems to be the iPhone's biggest glitch, but thankfully, it has nothing to do with assembly of the device itself.
Pogue did give positive reviews concerning the iPhone's "crystal clear" call quality and even ventured to say that, "few cell phones sound this good." Mossberg and Baig agreed. Pogue also mentions the versatility of the App store, while Baig, who gave the phone an "enthusiastic thumbs up," was impressed by the iPhone's GPS capabilities.
All three journalists agree that the iPhone is a sound investment. Mossberg urges that reluctant Apple fans hoping to wait for a later generation "might want to take the plunge" after all.
