One password to rule them all. That's the idea behind SplashID, a simple but effective mobile vault for passwords, PINs, login IDs, credit-card numbers, registration numbers, Social Security numbers, and any other information you want to preserve and protect.
To get started, enter a password to gain access to all your other passwords--or let SplashID generate one for you. Either way, the program relies on 256-bit Blowfish encryption, so your records should be pretty hack-proof. Just don’t forget your password, as there's no way to recover your data if you do.
When you're ready to create a new record, choose information type (anything from bank account to web login), then fill in the corresponding fields. If you need a new password, the app can also create one for you--anything from 3-30 letters, numbers, and/or symbols. You can customize the field labels for any entry and categorize the entries themselves: business, personal, and so on.
SplashID is half mobile, and half stationary; there's an optional (but essential) desktop component for Windows and Mac systems, and it's just as handy as the iPhone app (though a bit less intuitive with its stark interface). It's much quicker and easier to type new entires into the desktop application and then sync your iPhone. The computer interface also serves as a useful reference throughout the day and provides a backup in case your phone goes missing.
Alas, there's no option for automatic synchronization. The desktop app must be running, and you have to launch the sync process manually on your iPhone. Other than that, there's little to complain about, except the cost of the desktop application--$19.95--on top of the iPhone app. If you can buy into the full package, you'll find this password-protecting twosome incredibly handy.
