Star Trigon

The cuteness makes us nauseous… in a good way.
A copy of a little-known, six-year-old arcade game, Star Trigon comfortably slips into an iPhone. Tap the screen for your only control, slinging the always-circling, space-faring character out of orbit and towards a new planet. If you get close enough, the new object’s gravity sucks you in, just like we were drawn to this simple premise.
Your character drags behind a tether, with the hope of rescuing one of your lost-in-space friends. If you create a triangle between three planets, a web forms to lead those creatures to safety. But you’ll have to time your leaps to avoid rocketing into the black abyss and finish before running out of oxygen. The premise and play are both absurd and catchy; your friends look like Marshmallow Peeps, and the challenge kept us coming back after closely missing targets.
Difficulty scales well between sets of the 79 total levels. Some planets cause you to orbit faster, and some slow you down. Some rescues require an elaborate arrangement of overlapping triangles to reign in a target. But we wanted faster pacing. The shortest levels are over in less than 10 seconds, but you’ll waste about the same amount of time on repetitious score and introductory screens.
And we found a few iPhone-specific disappointments. You can’t play the game with your own music in the background, and Star Trigon crashed about a quarter of the times we launched it.
Star Trigon’s simple control and fun play fling it high, but bugs and the lack of music support pull it closer to Earth.
