Zagat To Go gives you the low-down on where to ho-down.
Zagat To Go '09 moves the popular city guide to the iPhone, with reviews and ratings of hotels, restaurants, and attractions. Enter your current location (which is automatically pulled from the GPS in the iPhone 3G), and the app lists all reviewed establishments within a five-mile radius. Sometimes you'll find that there are just too many places listed, but app thoughtfully lets you sort those listings by ratings and cost. Tap an item and you're given a short review; if it seems like a good choice, you can check the map to get directions to the place.
Although it's quite polished, Zagat To Go '09 still has some niggling issues. It doesn't explain its 30-point ratings system, so you're likely to be confused if you're new to Zagat Surveys. It also won't work unless you have an active connection to the Internet, though the developer has promised that offline functionality is coming in a future update.
Zagat To Go 09's biggest failing is that Zagat is chiefly concerned with our super-sized cities and readily neglects smaller ones; for example, its database offers almost 1,000 restaurant reviews for metro San Francisco, CA, but only four for all of Memphis, TN. And that's just lame.
Zagat To Go is a great tool for people who live in—or travel to—major
cities in North America. But If you're not one of these people, you'll
want to pass up this app.
