There is a very good chance iPhone 2.0 will be revealed tomorrow, and it will go on sale some time this week. Soon, I'll be standing in line with the rest of the iPhone faithful ready to plunk down my credit card for the next iPhone.
With all the giddiness surrounding a new iPhone with 3G, GPS and the ability to make all my troubles go away, I realized just how much my OG iPhone means to me.
While I tossed my Treo in a box and quickly forgot about the previous year of mobile device hell, the iPhone has become a member of the family. A trusted friend, who brought me the power of the internet when I was stuck on BART. The musical companion of my daily commute. The only one who understood my addiction to checking my 10 email accounts every five minutes.
You don't just throw a friend like that aside. So I decided to spend some quality time with my iPhone. Just me and my iPhone at our favorite places and doing our favorite things.
Here we are at Ocean Beach. While sand and salt are a no, no, for any device, my iPhone still can't get enough of the sea.
Here's a nice shot of Sutro Park. With its beautiful views and quiet environment, it's the perfect place to catch up on or favorite websites. Oh look, another sale on Woot.
For the iPhone to have a proper send off, I threw a little party complete with balloons.
Like most natives of California, (Designed, but not built.) the iPhone enjoys chips and salsa. Oh iPhone, you eat so much, yet you never gain a pound.
iPhone talks to some old timers about the good ol' days. We're all still useful in our own way.
My iPhone and I settle in to watch reruns of our favorite show. Sure, I could have watched this on the iPhone. But would it have really been fair?
And so my beloved OG iPhone, if the rumors are to be believed, I will bid you a fond farewell this week. No, no, don't cry. We won't be far from each other. My wife has offered to give you a fine home in her purse. It's much more comfortable than my pocket and it smells like gum, which is nice.
Adios OG iPhone, Adios.

Jeez, you're pathetic. IT'S A MAGICAL PHONE. NOT a lifestyle choice, NOT a friend, NOT a magic aid. It's a combination of plastic and metal. Seriously... GET OVER IT.
I disagree. It can certainly

I disagree. It can certainly be a masturbatory aide - in 2 ways as a matter of fact.
Firstly - it has the internet which means it can have porn.
Then there is a 3rd party app called iBrate which turns on the vibrating function of the phone.

Man, can't some take a joke. Lighten up. All I can say is it is a great column, I had a good laugh. Well done. I might have to a tribute to my SE K800i which has been a great phone for 2 years. But alas, we are finally getting the iPhone in Australia. So it's fate has been sealed the day I first laid eyes on the iPhone. Just took 18 months to get here. So it has been a slow break up. Don't cry, your going to a new home with the in-laws. Where you will be loved until you stop working.

Tearful Goodbye...

apple really really needs to open the I phone up to different carriers. i know at least 100 people who will never do business with ATT. myself included. so for now i'll stay very happy with my blackberry from verizon. and just for the record, i am a stanch devotee of apple.

You really need to get out more, if you spend your days carrying around your old i phone and lamenting about it. you should take a real date to the beach instead.
