iPhone 1.1.4 Firmware Goes Live
Posted 02/26/2008 at 1:41:17pm | by Roberto Baldwin

Since announcing its intention of releasing the iPhone SDK in February, Apple has been mum on the actual release date details. BusinessWeek recently reported that a source informed them that the SDK was running behind schedule and would be delayed one to three weeks.

With today's release of iPhone/iPod touch firmware 1.1.4, which is rumored to be the official update of SDK goodness, we might just see the third-party developers getting their code crushing little hands on the SDK by 11:59PM on Friday.

My guess is that with in 72 hrs third party programmers will be able to jailbreak firmware 1.1.4 and offer an easy to install method.

They've already jailbroken 1.1.4

it's not that hard, just have the 1.1.1/2/3 firmware ready and you can do it w/in 1/2 hour.

avatariPod touch

I'm downloading it now for my iPod touch.

I completely agree with Rob:

A update that is weighing in at 165+ MBs is going to do more than just 'Bug Fixes.'

avatarWait!

So I was just thinking that the update contains all of the code for the entire OS and that's probably why it's so big. Still something to think about though...

avatarI don't remember exactly but

I don't remember exactly but I believe the OS is bigger than 200MB. I could be wrong, I have only played with the phone software a few times and only using easy methods that many hard working people refined. It is a good thought, it might have tons of extra redundant data that is taking up space or, god willing, it has some data that leads to the SDK
