Are These the iPhone 2.0 Specs?

Engadget reports the next iPhone is already in testing and their "trusted source" had the opportunity to get their secret-spilling hands on one.

 

Here's the rundown :

 

• The new iPhone will be about the same size and shape as the first-gen model.
• It's 3G. Duh!
• It will have built-in GPS.
• The back will be glossy and black from top to bottom. No more metallic back, as seen on the current iPhones.
• The back will be smoother, less angular, and slightly thicker.
• The headphone jack will no longer be recessed. Yippee!
• The screen size and resolution will stay roughly the same.
• No solid word on battery capacity.
• Could ship as early as July.

 

Take all this information with a grain of salt, of course. The rumors and leaks should fly fast and furious for the next month, as WWDC approaches.

Apple needs to make iPhones available to other cell phone companies. Regardless of the AT&T adds they do not have more coverage than VerizonWireless. AT&T has no coverage in SouthWest Colorado. Plus AT&T has bad consumer relations.

I don't see iPhones making any bigger dent in the market until more
cell phone companies can offer the iPhone.

Because they sell the exclusive rights to sell the iPhone, one of the more popular phones, they an charge more, alot more. If they started offering it to other carriers than they could not charge as much. The bulk of profit that the phone manufacturer makes is off of exclusive phone contracts with carriers. Profits from the phones account for only 5 percent of their profit. Plus AT&T has one of the larger world market like Europe based TMobile and unlike Sprint and Verizon Wireless. If you want your product to sell on the world stage those two companies will do it for you.

My hope is that it will have HSPA, video calling, higher resolution camera, record video for export to YouTube and Podcast, Push-Email support (ie: Blackberry Connect and Microsoft Exchange), voice dialing, voice navigation via Google Maps in combination with an internal GPS receiver, Notes sync with OS X Leopard, App Store, 802.11b/g/n, stereo bluetooth support, Bluetooth file transfer sync with OS X Leopard.

The recessed headphone jack is to protect the jack from stress, ne? I've appreciated that I don't have to worry as much when it's in my pocket when headphones connected.

As a professional musician, if you happen to forget your 3rd-party headphone jack extender to use with your own non-Apple in-ear buds, and you wanted to listen to all that new music you downloaded onto your phone before your gig, oops, so much for that.

Also, with all of the great earbuds, professional and consumer alike (much higher quality than what ships with iPod products), that are even for sale on Apple's own website, I feel like Apple should have shipped an extender with the iPhone... in my useless opinion.

But yeah, I've had regular (non-recessed) 1/8" mini-headphone inputs go bad on me since my first tape Walkman.. under my normal abuse.

I'd rather have a recessed jack that doesn't break. I Wonder what the broken jack rate is on iPods?

The broken jack rate is probally 1,000,000 to 1. Please already people are complaining and the f-ing thing aint even out yet.
