After all that, it's hard to believe that I'm still happy with my Aluminum PowerBook G4, 15". Who'da thunk it?

Exactly! re: still being happy with your Aluminum Powerbook G4, 15".
I think that speaks volumes for Apple's on-going dedication towards
software and hardware integration, with quality design and attention to detail. Just hope, when I do "bite the bullet", and get the "new hotness", that its as solid a performer as my Powerbook G4 has been these several years! (not a single problem with anything, screen, hard-drive, etc.)
MacBook cache

The MacBook used to have a 4MB cache. Now they have a 3MB cache. The 15-inch MacBook also have a 3MB cache instead of a 4MB cache in the previous version. Anyone know why?
The Portable Mac Dilemma

Until I can spend the money to go Pro, I will stay with my iBook G4. I actually have to replace mine asap and I've layed with th eMacBook extensively and was initially quite excited when they where introduced but- everything else aside that keeps me loving the iBook way more- the screen alone on the Macbook's is keeping me away. iBook, PowerBook, Pro or iMac (I much prefer being able to grab and go) but the MacBook despite all the improved specs just isn't for me- Make the screen bigger and that's a whole other story!
Camino & PowerBook - Response to the two previous posts....

Yeah, Camino is GREAT! If only other Mac users realized this... NO ADS!
Yeah, my last gen PowerBook (1.67 ghz) is still rocking!!! Although these new MacBookPro's are incredible... used one at the last agency where I was a CD of Interactive... mega fast! I can only imagine just how much better with the new chips making them faster, cooler and better battery conservation... and the icing on the cake is the gestures track pad!

Take the machine to your local Apple store, they may be willing to replace it for a small fee or for free.

Nice, 200gb hard drive standard on the base MBP! Minor updates this time, although still quite exciting.

Apple must have been in quite the rush to get them out the door. They have a misspelling on the page. Double "P" in power in the "In the Box" section. Don't they have a little red squiggly line like me when something is misspelled?

Macbook Pro update is pathetic.

What a pathetic update from Apple for the Macbook Pro. What I would call a real update for working professionals using the Macbook Pro is a quad core Intel processor, SLI (dual GPU) NVIDA GeForce 8800M GTX, 200 GB 7200 RPM hard drive as the minimal spec and a Blue-Ray DVD R/W drive. I like that it now has a L.E.D. HD resolution display but the rest of the update from Apple is minor.

Umm I just bought an Macbook less than 30 days ago and don't get a Free upgrade. What do you think your chances are?
free upgrade?

Honestly,
Do you really expect anyone to give you an upgrade? And that you really believe a sales person told you that they wouldn't upgrade the line for 2 years? You never noticed how computers are upgraded about every 9 months? I'll call Steve Jobs personally and get you your money back plus a new mac book pro wait right here. Troll

I've been waiting patiently for the update since Xmas. I didn't expect a huge change so I'm very happy. I've got a newer 2.4GHz processor, larger hard drive, cool multi-finger track pad and a video card w/ a bit more VRAM (great for MacOS X, since the GUI is hardware accelerated). It saved me $400, which is a big chunk of change.
