Liberate Your iTunes Libraries

Step 5: Don't Leave a Mess
Rather than trying to clean up your old music library, it may be easier at this point to simply export whatever's left into yet another new library and delete the one that you just divvied up. Relaunch iTunes while holding Option and load your original library. To delete the audio files of the songs that you just moved to a different library, find and select the songs in the iTunes browser, press Command-Delete, and when prompted opt to move the files to the Trash

Technically speaking, your new, off-site iTunes libraries aren't backup.
