Owners of 17" MacBook Pros have been complaining about clicking sounds
coming from their 7200 rpm hard drives, but Apple hasn't said a peep
about the problem until today. According to CNET, Bill Evans (an Apple representative) told them, "[Apple is] aware of the issue and are working on a software update."
In normal Apple fashion, he didn't tell when the update might be available, but it's good to know that the problem lies with software and not hardware. CNET tells us that the problem is with 500GB 7200 rpm drives, and it causes the computer to become unresponsive for 10 seconds or so following a beep and clicking noises from the hard drive.
If your computer is affected or if you just want to read more about the situation, mosey on over to the Apple Discussion Boards where you can find a thread with almost 1,300 replies of people that have the same problems. We'll keep you posted on any software updates regarding this bug.
