Apple beefed up its international audience for iTunes in the Cloud this week, adding 37 more countries capable of downloading their movie purchases again. But Cupertino didn't stop there, quietly pulling the trigger on the same feature for 20th Century Fox titles as well.
9to5Mac is reporting that movies released by 20th Century Fox are now part of the iTunes in the Cloud experience. Sure enough, we fired up our iPad this morning to discover digital copies of both Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Marley & Me (hey, don't judge us!) now available for redownloading on our Mac or iOS devices.
As you may recall, Apple announced iTunes in the Cloud support for movies back in March, but both Fox and Universal were missing in action. Universal eventually came around, and it seems 20th Century Fox is also now on board.
The holdup stemmed from an HBO window in place with both studios dating back to the early cable days, a delay that got worked out back in April, which is when Universal gave the green light for its titles to be included in the service.
With all of the major studios on board, iTunes now becomes a much more attractive option for movie buyers. Buy a title once and delete it when you're done to save space on your hard drive, all while enjoying the ability to download it again any time or even stream it directly to your Apple TV.
Now if Apple would come up with some kind of iTunes Match-style service for converting our old DVDs and Blu-rays into digital downloads, sort of like what Vudu and Walmart are doing...
