iphoneIf you're the kind of person that gets lost while driving to the market to pick up milk, or you couldn't find a major city with a map, then GPS navigation systems are made for you.

With the recent high-profile release of TomTom in the App Store, the iPhone is being positioned as a replacement for those hardware setups hanging from windshields all over the world.

British sister site, MacFormat took a look at the current crop of GPS nav systems and listed seven reasons why you may want to save some of your hard-earned money.

Here are a few of their reasons:

1. Screen Size - Sure the iPhone looks humongous in your hand, but place it a few feet away in the glare of the sun and suddenly you're squinty the cab driver.

2. Get a Call, Goodbye Map - You're almost to an important junction when you get a call from your buddy.

3. Maps are Expensive - All of those lines with street names associated with them are pricey, that's why TomTom wants $99 for the app.

They go on to note four ways to that GPS nav systems could become epic.

Check out their entire list here.
