While the creators of the PDF format long ago surrendered its technology to all, Adobe has continued to refine its own Acrobat software. That storied tradition continues with the release of Adobe Acrobat XI on Monday.
Adobe has announced the availability of Adobe Acrobat XI, the latest version of the company's full-featured PDF creator and editor which integrates powerful cloud services for web contracting and online forms for the first time.
Acrobat XI also includes plenty of user-requested changes, including the ability to edit PDF files and export them to Microsoft PowerPoint, touch-friendly capabilities on tablets (including mobile apps for iOS, Android and Windows 8) and compatibility support for both the outgoing Windows 7 and the incoming Windows 8 operating systems.
Users can now update text directly inside a PDF, automatically wrap paragraph text, search and replace words and even crop, adjust or replace images, all with the newly designed Edit Text and Images tool.
Adobe Acrobat XI integrates better with the company's cloud-based EchoSign and FormsCentral services, giving sales teams the power to cut contract cycles -- and the time to close a deal -- from weeks to just hours.
Adobe Acrobat XI is available now direct from Adobe or the company's resellers. A free 30-day trial for Mac or Windows is available on the website, and upgrades from previous versions starts at only $199 for the Pro version or $139 for the Standard version.
Update: As noted by the Creative Cloud Team Blog, Adobe Acrobat XI is now available for Creative Cloud subscribers, contrary to what we reported earlier this morning. Members can head to the Apps page and install now!
