What manner of witchcraft is this? Adobe has shrunk down the tablet version of its touch-based Photoshop and is now making it available on the iPhone and Android-based smartphones.
Adobe announced the release of Adobe Photoshop Touch for Phone on Wednesday, a new version of the company's image editing app optimized for the iPhone, iPod touch and Android handsets.
Sadly, the phone version is not just Adobe Photoshop Touch for iPad as a universal build -- you'll need to shell out another $4.99 to purchase it for your smartphone, but judging from the screenshots, it seems Adobe has managed to pack all of the same features into the smaller-screen version.
“Mobile phones are increasingly becoming the primary tool for people to take and edit photos," said Winston Hendrickson, vice president products, Creative Media Solutions, Adobe. “Adobe is dedicated to serving our customers’ evolving creative workflow and we heard, loud and clear, that Photoshop fans wanted some core Adobe imaging magic on their smartphones.”
Among the features of Adobe Photoshop Touch for Phone are the ability to enhance images with popular Photoshop features such as layers, selection tools, filters, tonal and color adjustments, apply effects and add graphical text, edit images as large as 12 megapixels complete with layers and easily combine images using the Scribble Selection feature.
Adobe Photoshop Touch for Phone is now available from the App Store or Google Play for $4.99 and requires iOS 5.0 as well as an iPhone 4S or fifth-generation iPod touch or higher. The app can automatically sync images to Adobe Creative Cloud, which includes 2GB of storage free.
