Adobe unveiled some of its plans for AIR 3 today, announcing that they plan to create the "game console for the web" by offering 3D accelerated graphics for Flash and iOS.
Of course, since Flash isn't allowed on iOS by Apple's mighty mandate, the iPhone and iPad will just be getting AIR 3. Essentially, AIR is a sort of hybrid between a desktop application like Word or Solitaire, and a web application. The weird combination is said to create an environment in which all sorts of applications can be created, then accessed by a number of different devices (PC, Mac, iOS etc). And because it's a half "web" application, there's a work around with Apple's approval process.
While what Adobe is showing in the video below is still very far from what we'd call "console quality" (which is an odd term to choose because PCs and Macs run games that are far more impressive than consoles) they're still making some exciting claims.
