If you’re a political activist or just a concerned citizen with something to get off their chest, you’ll be happy to know that there’s finally an app for the common man (and woman) to communicate with the U.S. government.
Hello Washington brings to the iPhone and iPod touch the power to have your voice heard in our nation’s capital. "Let your voice be heard! Do you know who your State Senator or Representative is? Do you know how to even get in touch with them? Well, now you can. Hello Washington allows you to do just that," says David Braunstein, President of Smarter Apps, Inc.
Among the tasks made simpler by Hello Washington are the ability to look up who your Representative is (and even call or e-mail their office directly from your device), send a snail mail letter, keep up with all of the news coming directly from the nation’s capital, read bios of all of your elected officials and even join forums and create threads.
“How many times have you just wanted to write your Representative but didn’t because you didn’t know how to get in touch with them or you simply forgot to write them by the time you got to your destination?” the app description queries. “Hello Washington makes it convenient by allowing you to contact Washington officials with ease, right on the spot!”
One of the more interesting features of the app is the ability to follow all of the current bills on Capitol Hill and even see who’s sponsoring them. An app like this ought to create some sleepless nights for the staff of your Senator or Representative, especially with the ongoing debate over hot topics such as health care reform.
Of course, it goes without saying that the fact that such an app even exists in the first place shows once again how much freedom we enjoy in the United States. Can you imagine apps named Hello Theran or Hello Pyongyang? We think not.
Hello Washington is $2.99 and available now in the App Store. The app is less than a megabyte in size, compatible with both iPhone and iPod touch and requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later.
