Among the tech industry elite at Wednesday’s Apple media event were Kara Swisher and “Uncle” Walt Mossberg of All Things Digital, who cornered Steve Jobs for a quick chat afterward about the iPad.
As MacRumors is reporting, included in the
quick chat with The Wall Street Journal tech gurus were details that iBookstore pricing will be “the same” as Amazon, despite rumors that some books sold by the competition for $9.99 would be as high as $14.99 on the iPad.
Mossberg also queried Jobs on the potential ability to write his iPad review on the device itself using iWork, to which Jobs was insistent that yes, it was possible -- including the ability to convert the Pages document to Microsoft Word format and e-mail it to his bosses, all without ever leaving the device.
While Jobs touted 10 hours of battery life when playing video and “one month” of standby time at the iPad keynote, nothing was said about music playback. Mossberg asked Jobs about that very topic and was told the iPad would have “140-something hours” of continuous music playback, although that’s presumably with the screen off.
Early critics of the iPad are already skeptical of Apple’s claims that the device can achieve 10 hours of video playback on a single charge, given the power requirements of the IPS screen. We’ll all know for sure in 60 days!
