Just as iPad mini fans are getting over the fact that Apple didn't send invites to a media event on October 10 comes word that the junior tablet will actually makes it premiere on Tuesday, October 23 instead.
AllThingsD is reporting that Apple is planning a media event on Tuesday, October 23 to unveil its rumored "iPad mini," just three days before Microsoft begins shipping its own Surface tablet with Windows 8.
Recent rumors claim that the so-called iPad mini has been held up by manufacturing issues, a fate that also appears to have befallen a 13-inch version of the MacBook Pro with Retina Display.
Assuming Apple moves forward with the invitation-only event on October 23, that means the media should begin receiving their invites early next week.
AllThingsD was unable to confirm a location for the event, but the Town Hall auditorium on Apple's campus was pegged as a likely candidate.
After all, the iPad mini unveil isn't expected to be an epic event on the scale of last month's iPhone 5 reveal, which also saw a refresh of the iPod lineup and a preview of the new iTunes 11, which should make its own debut in the next couple of weeks -- perhaps even shipping at the same October 23 event.
