The competition's heating up! Or at least, Amazon's really trying for it here by launching its own Mac Download Store.
Although this seems redundant, Amazon does offer titles that are not currently available in Apple's Mac App Store, like Microsoft Office for instance. And also on the roster are titles from developers like Feral Interactive, Electronic Arts and Aspyr and Roxio.
Amazon states that "Mac Download store features an install-less download process where the customer gets just the product without any unwanted extras, making for faster and easier purchases. Plus, downloads are conveniently backed up in your Games and Software Library where you can download an unlimited number of times for personal use." While this all sounds fine and dandy, Apple's own Mac App Store does this as well, allowing users to re-download their lost applications and games any number of times. It seems the only headway that the online retail giant has against Apple is that it offers titles not currently found in the Mac App Store. But even then, it's only a matter of time until major titles like Office will become available.
Anyway, if you're considering checking it out, Amazon's offering $5 toward the purchase of any software you purchase through their Mac Download Store. So, uh, now might be a good time to finally purchase that Sims 3 expansion pack for a tiny bit less.
