Not feeling much enthusiasm for a new iPhone? Then maybe a new iPod touch will get your blood pumping, with one analyst claiming Apple could unveil the "biggest upgrade ever" for its media player at today's media event.
MacRumors is reporting that KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has chimed in with a last-minute research report ahead of Apple's media event at 10am PST Wednesday, and claims that the iPod touch is going to get some love from its makers today.
Calling the rumored 2012 refresh the "biggest upgrade ever" for the iPod touch, Kuo has a long list of details to back up such a claim, including new colors that will extend beyond the traditional black or white to keep younger customers interested.
Much like the iPhone 5 rumors, the iPod touch is also expected to stretch to a four-inch display and even thinner body than the previous generation, while adding a dedicated GPS chip to take advantage of Apple's new Maps app.
FaceTime HD camera improvements are also said to be on deck, along with a "significantly upgraded" 5MP rear camera and A5 processor, along with the new, smaller dock connector pictured in recent iPhone 5 leaks.
Last but not least, the new iPod touch is rumored to implement cross-device integration using Bluetooth 4.0, allowing the media player to connect with both iPad and Mac for use as a gaming controller -- or other possibilities yet to come.
This is the first time we've heard of such a beefy update for the iPod touch, which has previously been rumored to get only a minor update -- if any -- at today's media event. With the clock ticking, we'll all know for sure in a matter of hours…
