Analyst Projects 7 Million iPads Will Be Sold

Katy Huberty of Morgan Stanley believes that Apple could sell as many as 7 million iPads over the span of twelve months. This forecast was brought on by a recent survey of 2,500 individuals. Twenty-one percent of respondents said that they are interested in purchasing an iPad with another 16.4-percent being "somewhat interested."
The largest percentage of respondents, 65%, said that they were not at all interested in the iPad. This, of course, could be because Apple hasn't really slated a use for the iPad. Is it an e-book reader, a word processor, or a multimedia device? To us, the iPad represents a blank slate of applications that can run on the device to really make the iPad personal based on what the consumer wants. However, a lot of individuals still think it's "just a large iPod touch/iPhone."
The survey also asked respondents to tell what they'd use the iPad for. Using the iPad for browsing and email was on 90% of the results, with 67% for multimedia consumption, 60% for print media, and 57% for gaming.
These sales expectations could become a reality, but only time will tell. Apple announced today that they delivered more than 500,000 iPads during the first week of the device's availability, which already represents quite an achievement.

"Twenty-one percent of respondents said that they are interested in purchasing an iPad with ANOTHER 16.4-percent being "somewhat interested."
That implies a total of 37.4%, which is incorrect. 16.4 are somewhat interested, and ANOTHER 4.6 are extremely interested.
