Android Lock Screen Inspires Apple?

Typically, Apple sets the design trend for the computer industry. For years they've done this, laying out some design principle that gets snatched up by nearly everyone else, in a way that makes the industry prettier. Since we're all so use to that direction of inspiration, it seems surprising for Apple to be influenced by others, and it's especially surprising to see them influenced by their largest competitor in the mobile market.
Case in point: For Apple's internal "Apple Connect" app, used by Apple employees, they've employed Android's lock screen mechanism to secure the software.
For those of you who are unaware, Android has long had an option to lock your phone not with a simple numeric combination, but by using a 9-point grid that lets a user draw out a password that must be recreated. This combination pattern is a beloved feature on Android phones, and this feature is now available for use internally at Apple.
There's reportedly no word about whether or not Apple plans to implement the pattern lock on iOS itself, or if it will remain on their private application.
