The offshoot brand of the ultra-popular iOS game Angry Birds has spawned its first update which will be released sometime this week. Angry Birds Rio was released in March as a tie-in to the children's movie about wacky birds, Rio. It was an appropriate product tie-in if ever there was one. But Angry Birds Rio is becoming a whole new game of its own.
Rather than just being a one-off advertising opportunity, Rovio Mobile is continuing the Angry Birds Rio franchise and offering a new update. As with most Angry Birds updates these days, the Beach Volley update to Angry Birds Rio appears to offer only slightly new content. Most of the levels shown off in the trailer look much the same as everything we've seen from the series before.
As great as it is to have all this free content, we're still hoping for a full-fledged Angry Birds 2 that could address some of the game's shortcomings. Its wonky physics have been in need of an update since Day 1. Hopefully, Rovio is working on something as we speak.
