Say what you want about Angry Birds, but you cannot deny The Force is strong with developer Rovio, who has turned the mobile game into a mammoth hit. Now, the company really does have The Force behind them, as well as the entire Star Wars universe.
Rovio is celebrating the release of Angry Birds Star Wars, the latest chapter in the company's bird-tossing mobile gaming saga. This time around, the company has teamed up with Lucasfilm Ltd. to combine its iconic space saga and help the birds fight off the Empire's evil Pigtroopers. (That's not a typo.)
"Rebel birds, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Imperial Pigs," the app description reads. "During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the PIG STAR, and are racing to deliver the plans to the Rebel Birds. Now they need your help!"
Okay, it's probably as hokey as it sounds, but for even casual Angry Birds players of a certain age who still hold Star Wars close to their hearts, it's bound to be good, clean fun.
Rovio has done a bang-up job of launching Angry Birds Star Wars across all platforms at once on Thursday, available for a mere 99 cents in an iPhone/iPod touch edition, $2.99 for the HD iPad version or only $4.99 for the Mac App Store release.
