The more the merrier right? A new report is out today that Apple is bringing on another supplier of touch panels for the iPad, which should square away any supply issues and production problems.
The below comes via DigiTimes:
Cando, a subsidiary of AU Optronics (AUO), is scheduled to start shipping 9.7-inch touch sensors for Apple's iPad from its newly reformed 4.5G production line in September-October 2010.
Overall output of the newly reformed 4.5G plant will be mainly for iPad touch sensors with a monthly capacity of almost one million units.
Industry sources are saying that Apple had originally hooked up with Wintek and TPK for iPad touch panels, but possible production issues at Wintek had resulted in a slightly delayed launch and supplies had remained tight for the iPad once it finally debuted in the U.S. in April. TPK was also rumored to be experiencing production issues, which had forced Apple move some of the production back to Wintek.
Shipping estimates are now down to "within 24 hours" after having previously read "7-10 days" at one point. The new output may be a part of upcoming boosted expansion, such as to Best Buy as had been mentioned yesterday.
