After only three months on the market, its safe to say that developers loves them some iPad. According to TUAW, the App Store has laid claim to hosting 10,000 native iPad applications and counting: that's a whole lotta tap and swipe awesome. If you've yet to take a peek at the full catalogue of native Apps, doing so is easy: Just visit the "Featured" section on your iPad and then give a tap to the "Release Date" tab.

What makes this story all the more interesting is that Apple's other mobile darling, the iPhone, took close to twice as long to tally up the same number of applications in the App Store. This could be for a number of reasons; the most likely being that many of the Apps took minimal tweaking to churn over from the iPhone to the iPad's larger amount of screen real estate. The other reason, and this is an encouraging thought, is that developers have had the opportunity to hone their coding skills in the time since the App Store first opened, which could make for, as we have seen, a faster App development cycle. That means more applications for consumers to choose from and with the amount of competition in the App Store pushing ever upward, a greater incentive for developers to push the genius of their final products that much further in the hopes of wowing us into a purchase.
