These are dark days, my friends.
What happened to the days of when we used Facebook to mask our life-crippling drive to procrastinate? A few years ago, it was easy to convince yourself that uploading pictures of your cat after its bi-annual bath was an all-telling window into your soul. Sure it took twenty minutes worth of your time that could have been spent with your family or to finishing off a report that was two days overdue, but those pictures of Mr. Snugglez were important. The people deserve to know.
Fast forward to 2010.
No one even tries to pretend they're doing anything productive anymore. Between whipping seeds around Farmville and the time your so-called friends take up making you take down yet another thug in Mafia Wars, there's been no time to tackle anything 'productive.'
It's a sad state of affairs.
Fortunately, Apple has come to show us our way to the light. By offering the ability to browse the App Store inside of Facebook, you'll be able to double your 'productivity' by fusing two of your favorite time-wasters into one beautiful amalgam of delay.
For a first-round Facebook application, it's showing quite a bit of promise. By aping the App Store's iTunes user interface, Facebook's App Store interface manages to avoid anything resembling a learning curve. With a nod to the fact that while you are indeed browsing for Apps, you are still on a social network, the page's designers thoughtfully coded in the ability to share your favorite Apps with your friends. Not too shabby.
For those interested, access to Apple's Facebook App Store portal is free, but does require a Facebook account, which let's face it, you already have anyway.
