Apple has announced this morning that the App Store has now crossed the three billion downloads mark.
It’s hard to remember the “Dark Ages” of the iPhone before the App Store’s debut in June 2008, especially when the device (and its non-telephonic little brother, the iPod touch) has just rolled out its three billionth download in only a year and half.
“Three billion applications downloaded in less than 18 months -- this is like nothing we’ve ever seen before,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “The revolutionary App Store offers iPhone and iPod touch users an experience unlike anything else available on other mobile devices, and we see no signs of the competition catching up anytime soon.”
iPhone and iPod touch customers in 77 countries all around the world have access to the App Store with a range of apps in 20 different categories. The App Store crossed the two billion download mark just over three months ago and the ascent continues.
Any guesses as to when it will hit its plateau?
