2010 was a big year for the iTunes App Store, particularly with spreadings its wings to the larger-form iPad. Apple has released their annual year-end “iTunes Rewind” lists for the year, and here’s what made the top of the charts.

TechCrunch is reporting that Apple has announced their “Apps of the Year” for 2010 as part of their iTunes Rewind 2010 lists, which cover music, movies, TV shows, podcasts and yes, apps. This year the company has split the categories for both iPhone/iPod touch as well as the iPad, and a full list of each category and winners is listed below.

However, four apps get extra special treatment as this year’s “award winners” -- let’s give a big round of applause for vintage photo app Hipstamatic, popular games Osmos and Plants vs. Zombies and unique reading app Flipboard. For whatever reason, Angry Birds appears in place of Osmos on the iTunes graphics, but an Apple press release appears to confirm the Osmos nod.
