Well, would you look at that: Apple has gone right ahead and confirmed the existence of a 128GB iPad in a press release, coming February 5 for a starting price of $799.
Apple has announced a new iPad with Retina Display model will be joining the ranks starting Tuesday, February 5, effectively doubling the maximum storage capacity from 64GB to the 128GB first reported on Sunday.
Available in black or white and in Wi-Fi only ($799) or Wi-Fi + Cellular ($929) editions, the 128GB capacity model is otherwise the same as an existing fourth-generation iPad with Retina Display -- just one with a whole lot more storage.
“With more than 120 million iPads sold, it’s clear that customers around the world love their iPads, and everyday they are finding more great reasons to work, learn and play on their iPads rather than their old PCs,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
“With twice the storage capacity and an unparalleled selection of over 300,000 native iPad apps, enterprises, educators and artists have even more reasons to use iPad for all their business and personal needs.”
The move would seem to all but confirm that a new fifth-generation iPad isn't likely to appear until later this year, but offers a way for Apple to keep the current version in the limelight while staking claim to being first to offer a larger-capacity model.
