Following Apple’s announcement of the iPad 2 at a media event in San Francisco, the company moved on to finalize details on the next version of iOS which is coming on March 11 to accompany the new device.
Apple’s Scott Forstall took to the stage at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts to update everyone on iOS 4.3, the next update for the company’s portable devices which is coming on March 11 alongside the new iPad 2.
Front and center as part of iOS 4.3 is “significantly increased Safari performance” thanks to a Nitro JavaScript engine.
AirPlay is also vastly improved with iOS 4.3, adding iTunes Home Sharing so mobile device users can access their content directly over Wi-Fi. AirPlay now allows App Store apps and even websites to push both video and audio to your Apple TV, along with new built-in slideshow options.
As already revealed by developers testing with iOS 4.3, the update brings back the rotation lock switch on the iPad, giving users the freedom of choice via software to use the switch for either mute or rotation lock. Personal Hotspot will also be added to the iPhone 4 with iOS 4.3, as widely predicted after being made available on the Verizon Wireless model.
Existing owners of iOS devices can download the new iOS 4.3 update on March 11, which will come standard with the iPad 2.
