Apple Announces iPhone 5 Sales of 2 Million Units for China's First Weekend

The iPhone 5 touched down in China and more than 30 other international locales last Friday, and Apple is wasting no time popping the cork on the champagne by celebrating another two million handsets sold in three days.
Apple announced on Monday that the iPhone 5 is a hit in China, with more than two million handsets sold in the first three days since touching down on the mainland last Friday, December 14.
The iPhone 5 also marks Cupertino's fastest iPhone rollout to date, with the iconic handset available in more than 100 countries by the end of the month.
“Customer response to iPhone 5 in China has been incredible, setting a new record with the best first weekend sales ever in China,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “China is a very important market for us and customers there cannot wait to get their hands on Apple products.”
As we reported on Friday, the iPhone 5 is now available in Albania, Antigua and Barbuda, Armenia, Bahamas, Bahrain, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Ecuador, Grenada, Indonesia, Israel, Jamaica, Jordan, Kuwait, Macedonia, Malaysia, Moldova, Montenegro, Panama, Paraguay, Philippines, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Taiwan, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Venezuela as well as China.
